The Foundation of Ventura County Credit Union Hosts Grant Recognition Reception

The Foundation of Ventura County Credit Union (VCCU), a nonprofit 501(c)3 entity with a mission to provide financial assistance and education to the local community, hosted a Grant Recognition Reception on Thursday, Oct. 6, to honor seven local nonprofits that received grants from The Foundation toward their respective charitable efforts.

Since its founding in 1950, VCCU has maintained a longstanding commitment to charitable giving. In the past five years, VCCU has donated more than half a million dollars to local organizations and causes. With the credit union’s healthy financial returns and the generosity of its member base, VCCU was able to launch The Foundation of VCCU to increase its philanthropic efforts in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties.

The Foundation received more than 40 grant applications during its inaugural grant cycle. Through membership drives, various contributions and fundraising efforts, The Foundation was able to grant a total of $45,000 to the seven nonprofit organizations it selected. These seven nonprofits include California Lutheran University’s Community Counseling Services, Community Memorial Health System, FOOD Share, NAMI of Ventura County, Ventura Hillsides Conservancy, Ventura Homeless Prevention Fund, and Westminster Free Clinic.

“We are humbled and inspired by the efforts underway throughout our community,” said Natalie Yanez, board president of The Foundation of VCCU. “I’d like to personally thank every nonprofit organization that applied for a grant through our dedicated foundation. We feel an even greater commitment to work toward generating additional funding in the years to come.”

The Foundation raises funds from a variety of donors, including VCCU employees, volunteers and several longstanding credit union members. The funds raised by The Foundation go toward grants and to be considered for a local grant, organizations must be a 501(c)3, be based and serve communities in Ventura and/or Santa Barbara Counties, and should be in alignment with The Foundation’s funding priorities of the underserved, beautification and preservation of the environment, and health and well-being of the region. The Foundation’s next grant cycle will become available in the summer of 2017.

With Yanez and VCCU president, Joe Schroeder, at the helm, the foundation’s leadership team also includes Linda Rossi and Sandra Tolks of VCCU along with board members Terry Ball, Robert Marshall, Alma Medina, and Stacy Oates. ABOUT THE FOUNDATION OF VENTURA COUNTY CREDIT UNION

In 2015, Ventura County Credit Union formed its own nonprofit to foster goodwill and charitable efforts by giving in the communities it serves. The Foundation came into fruition based on many years of giving — including donations of nearly half a million dollars to local nonprofit organizations and causes — and will continue to provide funding, grants, assistance and education to VCCU’s local nonprofit partners. It focuses on three main categories: the underserved, the beautification and/or preservation of the environment, and the health and well-being of the region.
